People who have recovered from COVID-19 can donate their plasma to support ongoing research, according to the FDA. An announcement on fda.gov advises that while the safety and efficacy of “convalescent plasma” has not been established, “there is some information that suggests it might help some patients recover from COVID-19.” Patients may be able to access convalescent plasma through participation in clinical trials or through acute care clinics involved in an expanded access program. Additionally, the FDA advises that physicians can apply on behalf of their patients for permission to use convalescent plasma. To begin this process, providers can access request forms at https://www.fda.gov/media/98616/download and submit them to CBER_eIND_Covid-19@FDA.HHS.gov. Responses are issued within four hours, and requests are accepted seven days a week.
